Effective Monday, the current fee for late renewal of motor vehicle registration will be reduced from $20 to $10. In addition, the previous seven-day grace period associated with the fee has been extended to 30 days. It still is illegal to operate a motor vehicle after the registration expiration date, and doing so can result in citations and fines. Vehicle registrations typically expire on the motorist’s birthday, not at the end of the month. In order to avoid a late fee, vehicle owners can complete renewals up to 90 days before the expiration date, either in person, at a local deputy registrar, by mail or online at www.OPLATES.com. For more information on the late fee reduction, call 614-752-7800 or visit www.ohiobmv.gov.
